Monkey's been talking in full sentences since before she could walk. And kinda hasn't stopped since...
Here are a few of the latest fun stories:
1. The Place: Ash Wednesday service at out church
Who's Around: A church full of people, mostly adults.
Scene: I was singing in the choir, up front, and MDD was running the sound board upstairs. Monkey was going to sit with her dad during the service (which is typically not full o'kids), but our friends were there with their granddaughter so she sat with them. In a less-than-full service, there were several pew options, but of course the girls initially chose to sit in the row with the carved-out area for a wheelchair. Because it's SPECIAL. A family (of all adults) sat behind them. When I finished choir practice, I went to check on Monkey and her friend, who were awaiting the grandfather's return from the washroom.
Lady Behind The Girls: Oh- is this your little one? (looks at Monkey--my mini-me--then at me) Well, clearly, yes. She's beautiful!
Me: Thank you.
Monkey's Friend: Grandpa will be right back but then we're going to move up front.
Me: Ok... I hope you're being good... (eyebrows to Monkey and her friend)
Lady: Oh, yes, they're just fine.
Big Guy Next to Lady: Yeah... She's a TALKER, though. (bobs his head toward Monkey)
Me: Yes, she is. She's a singer, too.
Lady: Like her Mommy! (She just saw me come from practicing with the choir.)
On cue, Monkey switches to her "serious singer face" and I hear the first words-- quietly, as it's the low part...
"The snow glows white on the mountain tonight..."
Me: HEY! There's your Grandpa! Let's move on up...

2. The Place: My car, driving home from school
Who's Around: Monkey in her car seat, and Mom, driving
Scene: We were discussing the upcoming changes in her school. After this May, she will be moving into a transitional summer class for kids going into kindergarten and first grade. Big change: NO. MORE. NAPS. (Dang.) I was asking if she's still napping most days or not.
Monkey: Yeah, most of the time, but not every day. But did you know (Buddy) actually did NOT wake up crying after nap today!
Me: Wow, that's a big change for her.
Monkey: I know! I don't understand that though. Why does she do that? (Other Buddy) last year did that all the time. Why do people cry when they wake up?
Me: I dunno, hon. Some people just do-- their brains kind of mis-fire like that and it happens. But it usually passes quickly.
Monkey: (incredulous) Yeah, but...I just don't GET it. *I* wake up refreshed and ready to move on with the day's activities...!
3. The Place: Pretty much everywhere
Who's Around: Anyone and everyone
Scene: Monkey, at the top of her lungs...
